When I was in high school, our English curriculum was structured into single-semester courses. This gave us college-style flexibility in terms of what we studied. Instead of an entire year in one textbook we took a semester of Shakespeare, then maybe Southern Writers, you get the idea. One of those courses was on Science Fiction. Mr. Tony Hartigan assigned a number of required novels to us, then we could go off on our own for a few others. One of the assigned ones was "Cat's Cradle." That and the film version of Farenheit 451 were my first exposures to Vonegut.
I'm a better person for having experienced his works. My boys will be as well.
